Hi guys! I hope you had a great weekend. Do you believe in a week it will be Christmas?! It is such a wonderful time of year. I love all the decorations, lights, and Christmas music. One thing I have learned from past Christmas’s (is that the correct punctuation?) is not not to let myself get caught up in things and stress out. Not to allow buying gifts, making the perfect cookies or rushing around to steal the joy out of the season.
We try to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, our family and making memories. I think Christmas has become so commercialized that people forget to slow down and use the time to just be. Just he with your family. Just be at home. Just take time to relax and reflect. I hope you take some time to just be. To enjoy the season and have some fun. To let loose a little. Don’t worry about the house, sit down and play with your kiddos.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas! I will finish up posting things this week and have the Thinking Tree giveaway on Wednesday at noon Eastern. After I announce the winner I will be taking two weeks off. I may post things here or there, but not much! I’ll talk to you all later! Mandy
Wow, its Thanksgiving week already!
I love Thanksgiving. Its a time to reflect and look at your life to see and remember what you are truly thankful for. It’s a time to take a break, relax, and to enjoy eating together. I really hope, especially if you have been stressed or just had a rough year, that you can take some time to look back and write down some things that happened that you are truly thankful for. Write it down even if its just one small thing. Tuck it away in your Bible, a book you are reading or are going to read. Stick it somewhere you will find it unexpectedly one day, put it in a scrap book or make it look pretty and frame it so you can see it and think if it often. Just remember it. Remember the good things, look beyond the sad, hurtful, mad and frustrating times and find the happy memories.
Think of times you may have helped others. Maybe you were able to bless someone with a gift or even just a smile. Remember the good times. Rememeber to be thankful for all you do have. Most important remember to love and to accept love. We are all worthy of love and that is what this whole Thanksgiving and Christmas season is about.
I pray your Thanksgiving is a blessed and relaxed time with family, friends or both. Talk to you later! Mandy
Hi out there! What have you all been up to? Anything fun? We have been having a LOT of rain lately. It has been giving us cabin fever big time! We have had a pretty good week in school even without being able to be outside much. We were able to take a little driving trip to a local farm that makes amazing hay sculptures. I’m sure you can tell what story they are from. We also got some yummy apple cider while we were there.
LH has been working in his Thinking Tree journal a lot. Learning how to add and subtract with carrying and borrowing. He has also been studying jellyfish. Did you know? They are their own worst enemy? They eat their own kind more than anything else…talk about a predicament. Lol
WYH has been practicing writing letters and basic addition and subtraction. He has also been doing some painting. Today, he found a bottle of baby powder and decided to squeeze it up into the air to watch all the particles fly all over the house. Lol He loves to watch how things work, react and go together. I wasn’t too upset…thankfully I stopped it before he had it coating everything. Lol
WH has been working on his Zoology part of his science journal. He was studying one of our dogs and writing down his observations. He starts archery club next week. He can’t wait for that. He has been on a homeschool archery program the last four years and really enjoyed it, but was ready to move up to something with a little more substance. He was able to get his own bow and arrows which was really cool.
Ben and I have been busy with all kinds of things. Of course school with the boys. We are also working on starting an Amazon store. There is a whole learning curve, but we are excited about it and hope it brings us some more freedom.
So, what have you been up to? Anything interesting or cool? Any new curriculum you started using and love? Maybe its been a hard week. Let me know what’s been going on and if there is anything I can pray for. I’ll talk to you later! Remember to check out the Facebook Thinking Tree video I did today. You still have time to watch it, comment or ask a question and get in on the giveaway. I hope you have a great night! Mandy
Motivation Monday…..it started out that way. I got up this morning…I might have hit the snooze button once…or twice. I did finally get up. I made Ben his coffee, packed his lunch and sent him off to work. I decided to get an early start on my chores, which are the dishes and dining room. I felt accomplished for getting such and early start on things. So, I thought I would take a nice relaxing bath. Well, LH woke up early and interrupted that…..but that was ok. Didn’t disrupt my nice morning. Then WYH woke up and he and LH decided to look through their books and look for some to sell so they can make some money. Things were still nice and calm. They were working together figuring out which books were “baby” books and ones they just don’t want to keep anymore. Then WH wakes up and things take a dive….a huge dive….like the kind you feel like you are never going to reach the top again dive. I hear screaming and yelling and bossing around. I hung my head and sighed. It had been such a nice morning. I decided to just leave it alone…they are getting older and I need to start letting them work things out sometimes. I wasn’t sure what would happen I was just hoping no one would end up hurt. Well, the yelling went on for about 5 minutes and it was VERY difficult not to yell what I really wanted to yell. I stayed strong and stayed out of it. Guess what….they quit. They actually quit. They all got cereal, sat down and listened to some silly music. They were kind to each other and let each other choose different music to listen to. Who knows how long this will last, but I’ll take it while I can.
So, when you start getting frustrated try to take a deep breath and calm yourself before you react. That’s a hard one….I know for sure. The more we relax and ask God for His peace and patience the better we will feel and the better our relationships with our kids will be. I hope you all have a womderful day and are able to let your stresses flow away. Talk to you later! Mandy
Good Morning! Monday has come yet again.
So, yesterday we went to see a play at a local theater. My sister in-law and brother in-law were both in it…so we wanted to make sure we went to see them in their first play. They are 10 and 12…I think. I’m so bad with birthdays . Anyway, it was a special needs production of “Honked Jr.” A very cute version of “The Ugly Duckling.” Just to give you a little background on me, I am not a crier (is that how you spell that?) I don’t like to cry and I don’t cry easily. Ok, now that I told you that, on with the story.
The lights blinked and it was time for the play to start. The producer came out and explained how things work in a special needs play. Each actor had an attendant to help them and the attendant would be dressed in black. They attendants would be there to help with lines if they forgot them or to help them remember where to go. They also had subtitles to help you follow the story because some of them had trouble speaking.
Well, the first big song started and everyone singing together, some could speak clearly, some a little mumbled and a few of them it was more of a grunt. I lost it! I started tearing up and then down the cheek they went. It touched my heart so deeply to see these people on the stage giving it their all, not being afraid of what people will think or say. They were so brave. They were amazing! I get nervous just to talk to a person one on one sometimes and I don’t have issues with my voice or a physical issue that make some people uncomfortable. They were inspiring! I have always thought that God chooses parents of special needs kids as a blessing to them and that they are very special parents to have been chosen to care for a child with a special need. I admire them and their child.
I have never been so touched by something as simple as a silly play just did. Well, not the play, but the wonderful people in the play. They sang their hearts out and put everything into their character. I wish I had better words to express how they made me feel. Our boys loved it too. I wasn’t sure how they would react. They have been around some kids with special needs, but you still never know how they will take it I can’t wait to take them to the next one. I believe going to these plays will help our boys learn to look on the inside and passed whatever is on the outside. I know this wasn’t exactly a motivational post, I just had to share it with you all. Watching The play was so inspiring and touching to to me. If they can get up there and do what they did on stage, why am I holding back on things? Why am I letting fear stop me? I need to move on, not worry about what others think, say or do. I need to do what I feel is best for our family and so do you!
I hope you all have a great day and that this week goes well. Thank you for following us and our journey. It really means a lot to me. If you are able to I would love to hear what your fears are…what is holding you back? Let us come together to support and pray to help each other overcome these fears. Talk to you later, Mandy
